Make Money While
You Job Hunt
Flexible gigs that pay fast and do not interfere with interviews. Bridge income to keep bills paid while you find your next role.
All of these gigs are flexible, and you can pause for interviews, networking, and applications. They are designed to support your search, not replace it. You are going to land something great. This is just to help you get there.
Turn flexible work into professional resume bullets that hiring managers respect. Select your platform and target role to get tailored bullets.
You are a 1099 contractor, not an employee. This means:
- No taxes are withheld. You are responsible for paying them quarterly
- Set aside 25-30% of earnings for federal and state taxes
- Track all expenses (mileage, supplies, phone). They are deductible
- IRS standard mileage rate: $0.725 per mile (2026)
Not tax advice. Consult a tax professional or use free IRS resources at IRS Gig Economy Tax Center.
Stay safe while doing gig work:
- Share your location with a friend or family member when working
- Trust your instincts. Decline any gig that feels unsafe
- Keep emergency contacts accessible in your phone
- For delivery: Park in well-lit areas, lock your car
- For in-person tasks: Meet in public places when possible
Report safety issues to the platform immediately.
As a 1099 contractor:
- You set your own schedule (when to work, when to decline)
- You are NOT eligible for unemployment benefits from gig work
- Platforms can deactivate accounts (check terms carefully)
- No workers comp, health insurance, or paid time off
